FCA is a global company and it operates in more than 40 countries with an extended customer base in more than 150 countries (FCA Group, 2015). The essay has four sections in which the first part discusses the generic strategy used by the FCA in its primary markets. The second part discusses FCA's market segment, customer satisfaction, and competencies. The third part discusses the business level strategy while the last part discusses the FCA's competitive advantage.
The Generic Strategy Used by the FCA in its Primary Markets
The generic strategy used by the FCA in its target market is focused differentiation. In this generic strategy, FCA is distinctive in its market segment to better meet the needs of its customers than other differentiators in the same market. The company specializes in the manufacture of distinct brands such as the Jeep and the Fiat to meet the needs of selected customers. The major benefit of the focused differentiation is that it keeps competition at bay, thus enabling the company to increase its profitability in both the short-run and in the long-run (Brown & Chandrasekaran, 2014).
FCA's Market Segment, Customer Needs, and Competencies
The most important customer need satisfied by the FCA is the comfort. The Jeep, for instance, is specifically manufactured to offer high-quality satisfaction required by the client. The other brand made to satisfy customer comfort is the Fiat. Besides customer comfort, the vehicles are durable and can last longer compared to the brands offered by the competitors. The company also offers warranties to service the vehicles in case they require company attention and such services are offered for free. The company also meets the funding requirements for the clients to make it easier and affordable to purchase various brands. The FCA has a distinct customer segment since it targets those people who prefer quality, comfort and durability and the company has specialized to address such demands. To serve the customers better, FCA uses its highly skilled expertise and manpower to produce brands that distinguish themselves from the rest in the market (Brown & Chandrasekaran, 2014). Therefore, the FCA is able to meet the customer specification and requirements from the utilization of its expertise.
Business Level Strategy
The FCA’s customer level strategy is linked to the company’s functional strategies which entail the identification of customer needs, identification of customer groups and the selection of distinctive competencies. FCA first studies its customers before selecting the generic strategy. For instance, the company carried a survey and identified what is to be satisfied (Hollensen, 2015. Therefore, the company concentrated on focused differentiation to meet specific customer requirements.
Organizational Structure, Control Systems and Organizational Culture as Competitive Advantage
The FCA's organizational culture is linked to the company's mission, vision, aims, and objectives. For instance, the company has cultivated the culture of Excellency, quality and good customer relationship. The mentioned attributes are vital in the manufacture of the high-quality brands demanded by the FCA's customers. The organizational culture also encourages innovation, acquisition of new skills and expertise that are in turn utilized in the production of the required quality (Ibrahim, 2015). Therefore, FCA's competitive advantage is its ability to utilize its expertise to manufacture high-quality brands.
