Dr Martin Luther King Junior is remembered as a hero who fought hard against racial discrimination in the United States of America. He was in the frontline in the fight for the rights of the civilians. He advocated for protests without violence and was the youngest man in history to receive the Nobel peace prize (Fomukong, 2015). There are so many reasons why observing Martin Luther King Day is important in the United States. The day honours his life as a fighter for equality and justice for different races. The day celebrates his peaceful nature and reminds people of the importance of speaking in a voice and not violence. It motivates people in the current generation and generations to come, to stand up and guard their rights through a calm voice. The day celebrates a brave man who endured physical torture for the freedom of other people. Additionally, the day is marked as a day of service to humanity. People perform all acts of humanity towards needy individuals to make the community a better place to live in (Dorrien, 2018).
