What sets a global business management professional apart from carriers and customs brokers is their ability to think in alternatives – GBMT professionals need to be able to craft solutions and alternatives for their clients that ensure timelines are met and budgets are not impacted but that’s not always easy to do.
In this assignment you will be required to form a group of a maximum of four people in Blackboard. Once the groups are formed; you will be presented with your clients shipping requirements. However, as in real life, there are times when circumstances beyond your control make it difficult to fulfill your client’s requests. The group is to analyze the requirements and determine whether or not you are able to fulfill your client’s request. If the group decides you are unable to execute the client’s request, the group must craft the best alternative for shipping the freight. Once the shipping arrangements have been decided, the group will need to complete a bill of lading.
Assignment Steps

1. Research the requested client shipping requirements; including the origin and destination, shipping date and time and the requested mode of transportation.
2. Conduct a risk assessment, including but not limited to; political stability; monetary risk, civil unrest, war, terrorism, changes to trade policy and natural disasters. Use this risk assessment to determine if there are any risks that could impact this shipment.
3. ; determine if the client’s request can be executed as requested. If not, suggest the best alternative for the shipment.
a. Some alternatives include but are not limited to; altering the shipping arrangements such as the date or time, revising the mode of transportation, suggesting supplier or sourcing changes, requesting delivery date or time changes, or cancelling the shipment.
4. Once the group agrees on the best course of action; prepare a bill of lading. (Blank versions of a road, air and ocean bill of lading are provided.)
5. Estimate the value of the shipment on the bill of lading.
6. It is up to the group to differentiate between the waybills and determine which one is applicable to this shipment and needs to be completed. Only complete the bills of lading that are required for the mode of transportation selected.
