One of the topics discussed in class was ethics in professional life. Different organizations have their ethical standards. Code of Ethics are important because they govern the operations of professionals in their work. These ethics ensure best practices aimed at improving efficiency and quality of services offered. Ethical issues in research include not manipulating data to suit one’s premise, keeping information confidential and using prudently research finances among others. The lectures also highlighted copyright and patent laws. There various ways of infringing copyright or patent rights including quoting information form books without acknowledging these sources.
It is mandatory for MBA students to study QBA. This is because QBA skills equip students to make better business decisions. QBA helps in the decisional function in management. Business environment is very competitive and making informed business decisions is necessary to enable firms to compete efficiently. QBA improves business performance by helping in process improvement and solving of business problems. QBA includes descriptive statistics, benchmarking, quality management among others that help in business analysis. Managers should recognize these analysis tools even though there are not involved in daily business tasks.
The lecturer vehemently discouraged against plagiarism. Plagiarism is an unethical infringement of patent and copyrights laws. The lecturer highlighted plagiarism and encouraged students to cite appropriately their works in order to avoid plagiarism. He warned students of the dangers of producing plagiarized works. Students learned about the use of either primary or secondary sources of data in research work. Primary data collection include conducting interviews, personal observation as well as surveys. Secondary data is mostly used in conducting business research.
The lecturer emphasized on data reliability and validity as critical statistical characteristics. Most survey questionnaires developed by students lack either of the two or both.
