What is a Case Study?
1 How are case studies used in management education?
Case studies are used in the management education using several variations. In Harvard, case the materials are used by the learner to apply previously acquired skills in the case. In problem-based learning, the learner has no knowledge about the solution of the problem under discussion. A learner investigates and finds the solution of the problem CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016). There are many sources of knowledge and information available to the students now. Students should be able to master themselves to differentiate between the sources of the information. They should be able to apply their knowledge to real-world problems in the workplace CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016).
In the case studies, "real life problems" that were faced by the organizations and participants are discussed. In business management studies, most of these problems were faced at managerial level, and the authors of the case studies incorporate with these problems CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016). Case studies help the students to improve their managerial skills and analysis of the situations faced in the workplace. In case studies, the students are asked specific and relevant questions and required to submit specific answers. Case studies also develop excitement in the students of the business management, as being a manager is a great challenge CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016).

Case studies are used in many formats and require both individual and group work. Before, the students should be able to conduct individual, study on the case and prepare their analysis. Individual studies help the students in the group discussion and learning the concept from others CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016). One of the biggest problems seems to be the inability of the learners to find appropriate answers. There is no instructor or teacher in the case studies as senior partners play the part of the teacher in most of the cases. Based on studies certain "answers" are developed, and these questions are answered with respect to the situation. There are no simulators available to predict a specific answer or response of the organization towards a specific problem CITATION Dix \l 1033 (Butler, 2016).
3 What are the most important characteristics of the case studies?
In a case study, the questions or problems are not determined, and they are defined later in the studies. It is essential to determine the issues involved in the case studies, ask the right questions and to determine the objectives of the case studies. "Hooks" that are minor problems leading to bigger problems should be efficiently determined CITATION Abe89 \l 1033 (Abell, 1989). The case should tackle a relevant issue for discussion. It is advised to make sure the relevance exists by making lists and then determining the leads providing information regarding the relevant issue. Another feature of the case study should be the presence of controversial topics in it. These controversial will lead to multiple definitions of problems and their respective solutions from their participants. The overall structure of the case studies should be rewarding, and participants should have a learning experience throughout the studies CITATION Abe89 \l 1033 (Abell, 1989).
4 Describe the holistic approach.
The approach used to conduct research based on the events that occurred in the past. Case studies can be considered as events that have occurred in the past and the problems stated in them were encountered by the professionals. However, some case studies can assume the events to occur in the future. Holistic approach removes problems attributed to classical reductionist approach. The main problem associated with this type of approach is the fact that the systems are considered as functional wholes, and they are irreducible. In simple there is little development methodologies that can determine what lies in the system CITATION NCT12 \l 1033 (NCTI, 2012).
5 How single and multiple case study designs differ?
The single case study designs are an observation of the single individual or group. A learner can choose between the atypical or outline cases, which types of the single case study designs. An ‘outliner case’ provides more information regarding the topic under discussion as compared to average cases. Multiple case study designs refer to selecting and using cases, which can result in the similar outcomes. Multiple case study designs are helpful when it is required to generalize the findings of the multiple case studies CITATION NCT12 \l 1033 (NCTI, 2012).
6 What are the benefits of conducting case study?
Case study helps the learners to determine the outcomes of specific situations that were faced by the organizations or managers. They find the answers to the questions like, "How these situations occur?" and "What were the impacts of these situations?" Conventional methods of conducting research are unable to determine the answers to the mentioned questions. To summarize a case ...
