I AM ME
Main focus brief summary
The main focus of this movie ‘I am me’ is to bring to awareness of disability hate crime. Like for example from the movie it is clear how bystanders are always trying to bully the main character Charlie, the bystanders are seen mimicking Charlie whenever walking in the streets and throwing words at him. The other case that was inhuman is throwing stuff into Charlie’s house just to disturb him since they are very much aware of his disability.
Charlie is a young man who is psychologically disturbed, this is clearly seen in the cases where, Charlie being an introvert, a very serious introvert who likes spending time alone, doing his own stuff quietly and also picking litter from his compound and the streets, a behavior that is always associated with mentally disturbed people (mad people)
The hidden message of the movie ‘I am me’ is to try to educate people how to live with those who are suffering with various types of disabilities in one way or the other instead of mistreating them and making them feel marginalized.
In case of dealing with a schizophrenic person, one needs to understand how to handle them and how to help them to calm down. Like clearly in the movie we are able to see how Tom an older brother to Charlie knows how to treat Charlie when angry, so it is very important to try and understand on how to handle insane times of a schizophrenic person.
In conclusion the movie is passing a clear message on discriminating the disabled in the society which is against the law. It is very wise to treat the disabled with love and acceptance rather than bullying them and throwing a bunch of words at them. Mentally disabled people are to be treat like any other normal person and taken to professionals like psychiatrists for treatment
