All matters that touch on rewards and claiming rewards are protected by the Law of Contracts. This means that David can claim the $100 compensation that was made by Kelly. This is made possible because the Contract Law regulates the obligations established in an agreement. It is important to note that transactions might be implied or stated (Williston & Jaeger, 1957). In our scenario, Kelly did state that they would be a reward for anyone who brought home her puppy. Over the years, there have been some renowned cases that are categorized under the Law of contracts. Some of these cases might have found the complainants on the wrong side.
David could argue that he hadn't seen the reward poster when he found the puppy and therefore provide that as a reason why he did not claim the reward at the time. On the hand, Kelly could argue that he withdrew the reward of $100 soon after he found her puppy and no one had claimed the reward. In both scenarios, all the involved parties are entitled to a fair hearing. However, Kelly could find herself in a tight spot if she did not make an n official cancellation of the reward. David could win the case on that basis.
