Introduction and Background
Currently, companies and organizations are more concerned about their reputations in terms of company-customer relationships. The company-customer relation, to a large extent, depends on an organization’s or a company’s business policies. In this regard, code of ethics plays key roles in the contemporary business environments since the customers normally pay much attention to public images of companies from which they are purchasing services or goods from (Stanwick & Stanwick, 2014). The customers also keenly observe the ethical principles and norms practiced by various organizations and their leaders. As a matter of fact, unethical behavior and practice are not accepted in the contemporary business environments since it results in the reduction of the customer base. Also, unethical conduct undermines the company's brand image or, in some cases, leads to the creation of a company's negative images. This deteriorates a company’s or organization’s performance (Stanwick & Stanwick, 2014).
Nonetheless, several cases of a business code of ethics violation and immoral business practices still exist in the contemporary business environments. This way, many organizations, and companies are more concerned with the effective means of ensuring that the companies practice ethical business behaviors. In this regard, development of a company’s code of conducts is the best way to prevent immoral practices by companies or organizations. A code of ethics is defined as a set of principles and rules designed to assist professional in conducting business with integrity and honestly. A code may highlight the organization’s or company’s core values and mission statement (Paliwal, 2006). It outlines how companies are required to approach business issues based on their principles. This paper focuses on the code of ethics for Rumi Grocery Company.
Rumi Grocery is a small upcoming company, focusing on delivering high-quality products at relatively fair prices. The company has several stores throughout the Northern part of the United States. Its operations include offices that host accounting, marketing, buying, and general staff operations; distribution facilities, and seventy food stores. The company is owned and operated by a group of business partners and has been in existence for over twenty-five years.
Mission Statement
To be the best grocery that offers goods and services beyond customer's expectations, and that values long-term relationship with its suppliers.
Guiding Principles
Rumi Grocery Company is deeply committed to doing strictly what is right. It company intends to meet the highest possible ethical behavior standards. The company’s guiding principle is "Always strive to be moral". The company’s efforts are dictated by its customers’ demands and requirements. It acknowledges the need to treat all its stakeholders with the utmost excellence and integrity so as to succeed in the business. Rumi Grocery insists that its workers operate with fairness and honesty in all the business aspects. Also, its workers have all the rights to be treated equally and fairly by the officers in the company’s top rank positions.
The company’s guiding principles were developed from what the support teams, store teams, and the customers have suggested about things that are important to achieving great working and shopping environments. The following are the company’s guiding principles.
1 Putting the customer’s interests first: The Company shares the same passion and competitive spirits to realize an exceptional services to its customers. Given this, the company takes keen note on its customers' interests. The Company considers itself to have won when the interests of its customers are at the center.
2 Authentic: The Company is straight forward and sincere with its customers, employees, and suppliers.
3 Caring: Rumi Grocery genuinely cares about its suppliers, employees, and customers. The Company is always sensitive to the needs and expectations of all its stakeholders.
4 Responsive: The Company is always friendly to its customers and serves with a sense of urgency.
5 Empowered: Rumi Grocery Company takes a personal responsibility to find solutions to the problems. In most cases, the Company gives incentives to its employees as a way of motivating them. Also, regularly, the Company offers discounts on certain products to encourage its customers.
6 Productive: The Company always strives to remain efficient at everything it does. It strives for goals beyond what was once thought achievable.
7 Knowledgeable: Rumi is accomplished and has friendly experts, who are continuously learning and improving. Status quo does not exist in the Company’s dictionary. The Company works every day to better its services.
8 Dedicated: Rumi Grocery Company is always proud to contribute to well-being of everyone in the society and serve its customers with the utmost efficiency.
9 Creative: The Company aims to motivate its customers by striving to inspire its customers through the introduction of unique goods and services. The Company continuously re-invent its service ideals to impress its customers and be more creative in adding value and fun to its customer’s experience.

Rumi Grocery Company has five core values. The core values help the company shape its culture and stand out among its competitors. It has remained committed to its values so as to achieve its goals and objectives. The following are the company’s core values:
Teamwork
The Company always strives to provide necessary support to its employees and other stakeholders, works co-operatively, respects one another’s opinions, supports one another, and makes its working environment enjoyable and friendly. The company creates a conducive working environment for its employees. This enables them to do their duties with little supervision. The workers co-operate with each other with a lot of appreciation and enthusiasm, and without any manipulation. The conflicts are resolved as per the set guidelines.
Excellence
The company is always committed to achieving its goals and striving for quality and excellence in everything it does. Quality always delights the customers while staying within the company’s budget limits. Rumi Grocery always keeps it promises and strives to fulfill them within the stipulated time.

Being honest and open in all its operations, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity at all the times is the company’s happiness. All the concerns are usually aired constructively with possible solutions offered. It believes that its workers are skilled in different ways, and, therefore, allows them to express their views and opinions freely without any interruption.

Rumi takes ownership of the needs of its customers and is always accountable for providing professional and friendly services. The company is always to maintain its customers using every ethical mean possible. This is achieved by understanding the needs of its customers. Professionalism
At all times, the company acts the utmost integrity and honesty, offering quality service by being responsible and reliable. The company is always keen not to upset its stakeholders intentionally. It always endeavors to present any negative feedbacks constructively. Moreover, the Company takes ownership and pride in all that it does and says.
Personal development
The Company values learning, feedback, mentoring and coaching. Mentoring and coaching are commonplace in the company. All the opportunities for the company’s learning are normally pursued. Whenever it undertakes a project, it take full responsibility to express its needs for training and collect relevant information for its development. Each and every company’s worker takes responsibility to meet the customer’s needs.
The Purposes of the Code
A code of ethics is normally meant to be a reference and central guide for the users in support of their day-to-day decision-making processes. It is intended to clarify the ideals, principles, and values of an organization, linking all of them with the set standards of professional conducts. As a reference, the code of ethics may be used in locating relevant services, documents, and any other resources that are related to ethical behaviors within the company. The code of ethics will be a disclosure of how the company operates. It will provide guidance for the employee’s behaviors as well as serving as a communication vehicle that will reflect the covenant that the company has made in order to uphold its core values and principles (Barth, 2003).
In general, the code is expected to serve the following purposes:
* The code will serve as a toll to encourage ethical discussions and also to improve how the company members deal with prejudices and ethical dilemmas in their day-to-day experiences.
* The code of ethics will supplement relevant rules, policies, and standards. However, the codes will not be a substitute to the already existing company's rules and policies.
* The code is expected to offer opportunity for the company to create a positive public perception, which will increased public trust and confidence among the stakeholders.
* The code of ethics will give the workers an insight into the company’s values, principles, and mission.
