The roles of men and women in plays are never equal to the objective of establishing gender roles, define influences, and distinguish the perception within the community in relation to gender. In many plays, women have been given a less significant role compared to men. Women are often portrayed as naпve, unable to make decisions on their own, and raised in a chauvinistic setting. Most of the decisions that women in plays make are largely based on the decisions and perceptions that others have. They are portrayed as weak and other family members would rather make a decision for them as a way to help them cope with the possible difficulties in life. In the play ‘Hamlet,’ Ophelia who is in love with Hamlet is cautioned by her brother Laertes against Hamlet.
