Tragedy of Othello: Analysis
Introduction
William Shakespeare brings Othello as the tragic hero. Shakespeare’s work explores the theme of an outsiders from the very beginning of the play. The protagonist, Othello, a black army general is centrally used to explore relationships in a Venetian society. From reader’s perspective, Othello is referred derogatively and demeaning as well as the reference as t being scarcely human. Othello was deeply endowed with skills and ability than his weaknesses could have clouded. Being an army general, he was much accomplished in battles, with a high rank and happily married. Tragedy in Othello is brought out in that despite being highly endowed and having achieved much despite having been an outsider, a black man in a white society in medieval society, the achievements would be gulfed up by the fear of being an outsider. He was jealous of his fate and was stuck on it as he continuously clung of being a foreigner and still a native citizen of Venice. Tragedy was evident in his public speeches and perturbations caused by internal factors that immensely contributed to the tragedy.
