Healthcare promotion and illness prevention among the American Indians and Alaska Natives has been influenced by cultural differences over time. The cultural implications adhered to by these heritages reflect on the health beliefs, values, self-imagery, illness behavior, expectations towards healthcare providers and the degree of trust that healthcare is accorded. Bias brought forth through culture adds to how individuals in the adopted heritages perceive and respond to aspects of healthcare promotion and illness prevention. Attributions adopted through the cultural differences describes on how the defined groups relate to health care (Purnell, 2012).
The American Indians adhere to the cultural concepts of living each day as it comes with the implications that it brings about joy and spiritual peace (Hendrix, 2001). On the other hand, the Alaska Native heritage adheres to the cultural aspects of future orientations over delayed gratification for a future date. The America Indians cultural believe the fact that they belong to the land and the creator provides the intended help over healthcare matters. Ideally, the Alaska Natives culturally believe that they have full mastery over nature and can successfully provide the recommended health care services.
