Cardiovascular disorders are diseases that affect the components of the circulatory system. The components include the heart and its associated blood vessels. The heart functions to pump blood to all parts of the body to ensure there is efficient oxygenation of tissues so as to prevent damage to tissues. The heart also pumps blood to the lungs so that the blood can be oxygenated. The main disorders associated with the cardiovascular system include coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure, ischemic and hemorrhagic shock, heart attack, stroke among many others. These diseases are mainly congenital meaning that they develop during embryonic life. The survey done by different cardiologists, shows that cardiovascular diseases also form part of the major causes of death in the world. Some of the diseases can be detected very early when diagnosed to avoid further complications that may end up affecting the entire circulatory system.
The most population of people in the world that are affected by the cardiovascular diseases is mainly diabetic. Therefore, diabetes may play a central role in the emergence of such illnesses. Many of these diseases have a common pathophysiologic relationship. In a case example like hypercoagulability that is caused by rupturing of the atherosclerotic plaque result in arterial thrombosis. Heart failure is a disorder that associated with impairment of the ventricles in either filling or ejecting out blood. Hypercoagulability also contributes to heart failure by affecting the muscles of the heart.
Gender plays have an impact on the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. Women are the commonly affected with the cardiovascular diseases than men. A research conducted by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys shows that more women have become prevalent to myocardial infarction every after two years. Women are also prone atherosclerosis mainly because of exposure to high levels of estrogen during their fertile period. The above diseases interfere with the functioning of the heart especially the conducting system that can also lead to peripheral artery diseases such as hypertension or venous insufficiency.
Dyslipidemia is a condition where the amount of lipids in the body increases above average concentration. It may be due to increased activity of hormones that favor lipogenesis hence increasing mobilization of free fatty acid in the adipose tissues. The free fatty acids accumulate in the blood as the blood flows within the blood vessels. As a result, there is increased deposition of free fatty acids and triacylglyceralide in the walls of the arteries and veins. Continuous removal of the products of lipogenesis results in narrowing of the blood vessels, a condition known as atherosclerosis that is a peripheral artery disease. Atherosclerosis leads to high blood pressure and can also malfunctioning of the heart (Tonkin, 2009).
