Remote Collaboration and Evidenced-based Care
Introduction
In the Villa health media scenario, there is the collaboration of planning for the health care of Caitlynn by different health care practitioners in different care settings. Caitlynn is a young girl admitted for pneumonia, but after some further tests, she was newly diagnosed with cystic fibrosis while still admitted to the hospital. Dr. Copeland is the head doctor, talks with Caitlynn's pediatrician, Dr. Benjamin, to discuss how they can both provide a collaboration to manage and take care of Caitlynn's condition. The interaction of the different health care professionals using Skype to find a way to manage her conditions is an example of remote collaboration. In the video, I plan to propose the most efficient evidence-based plan to improve the outcome for Caitlynn and also to examine how remote collaboration benefits or challenge the delivery the care.
Evidenced-based care plan to improve the patient's safety
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and other organs in a patient's body. Today, many advancements are useful in treating and managing patients with the disease to improve their life expectancy. The preferable evidenced-based care plan is using telemedicine. Telemedicine allows health care practitioners to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients in remote areas using telecommunications technology (Scott Kruse, Karem, Shifflett, Vegi, Ravi & Brooks, 2018). Majority of rural health institutions have adopted telemedicine to communicate and track their patients' progress with hospitals in the urban region.
Ways in which the EBP model was used to develop help develop a care plan.
Through using Telemedicine, Dr. Benjamin can connect and talk with Dr.Copeland and other health care professionals to manage and treat the condition of Caitlynn. The telemedicine plan assists the communities in rural areas like where Caitlynn was admitted because it overcomes the distance and time barriers present between the doctors and nurses and the patient. The parents of Caitlynn also have an opportunity to receive education on their child's progress and condition using telemedicine.
Since cystic fibrosis has no cure, Caitlynn will undergo treatments such as Airway clearance techniques to enable her to stay healthy and breathe easier. The technique monitors the lungs' movement to identify and reduce any lung infection that may be present (Schofield, Duff & Brennan, 2018).
Chest therapy is also significant in managing the condition of Caitlynn. The chest therapy approach applies gravity to clear any substance formed in a patient's lungs. Using the telemedicine approach, the hospital; can perform chest therapy remotely, and all the doctors of Caitlynn have an opportunity to monitor the results from the therapy.
The relevant and useful evidence when making decisions regarding the action plan
The telemedicine approach allows the doctors of Caitlynn to implement innovative solutions that are beneficial to the patient's treatment. Telemedicine allows for remote collaboration where patients care will be coordinated across different health specializations and health care settings. The telemedicine approach provides high-quality care when managing Cystic fibrosis that the patient was diagnosed with. The approach also increases the efficiency and the value of care of Caitlynn, and it is also cost-effective. The telemedicine approach allows the doctors, nurses, and physicians of Caitlynn to properly coordinate in the evidenced-based plan care action to manage the patient's disease.
Benefits and Strategies to mitigate the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration
One of the challenges faced by Caitlynn's pediatrician Dr. Benjamin, was his inexperience of patients with cystic fibrosis. Therefore, telemedicine tools mitigate the challenge because it provides a platform where doctors can communicate through Skype and video confessing to track progress and develop treatment strategies for Caitlynn.
Interdisciplinary collaboration reduces any medical errors that may ari
