Clinical issue
This paper proposes Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) as a quality improvement intervention in outpatient reconstructive breast surgery offices. NSM is an oncological surgical procedure for women undergoing mastectomy following breast cancer or as a way of a preventive strategy called risk reduction surgery. NSM is progressively being performed for invasive breast cancer, with growing evidence showing satisfactory oncologic safety of NSM, thus, leading to widespread use and broadened indications (Valero et al.,2020). It involves removing all of the breast glandular tissue beneath the overlying skin and nipple thought, making small incisions.
Rationale
The rationale for NSM involves the desire for aesthetically pleasant outcomes following mastectomy procedures, especially among those undergoing risk-reducing bilateral mastectomy. Breast reconstruction procedures feature key issues such as efficacy, safety, patient satisfaction, and aesthetic aspects. NSM is one of the primary implant reconstruction procedures that is an oncologically and surgically suitable therapy for women who need a mastectomy. NSM is an intervention that deserves attention.
