Question 1: Commentary of Simon’s Body shape, and size and how obesity relates to left-sided heart failure
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a traditional method of measuring obesity. It entails dividing the body weight (kgs) by height (m2) with consideration to ones' age and gender. The results can then be interpreted to determine whether one is obese or not. BMI below 18.50 is considered underweight, and above 30.00 is obese. A healthy BMI should be between 18.50 to 24.99. Simon weighs 130kgs,180 cm tall, a waist of 125 cm and he is 72years old. From the preceding, Simon's BMI is 40.12 kg/m2. He should reduce his weight through consistent physical exercises to a range of 60-80kgs to have a healthy BMI range of 18.50 to 24.99. Moreover, BMI and waist circumference are linked to cardiovascular cases. Nevertheless, Simon is Obese Class III and a broad waist. He, therefore, risks suffering health problems related to obesity such as left-sided heart failure, hypertension, and acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Obesity interferes with the performance of cardiac hemodynamics, heart morphology as well as ventricular functionality which may result in heart failure, in this case, left-sided failure. Moreover, obesity is linked to other comorbidities such as hypertension which leads to 75% of heart failure. Hypertension causes the muscles to thicken and cause the cardiac muscle contraction to diminish with time. Eventually, the latter can result in left-sided failure.
Question 2: Hypothetical medications for Simon’s Heart Failure and Clinical Conditions.
