Name: Instructor: Course name: Date of submission Exam Introduction The way children identify their friends mainly depends on the manner in which they relate with their parents. The establishment of friendship in children takes a series of stages; Stage1, stage 2 and stage 3. Question 1 Stage 1 (2-5 years) The way children start to interact with the adults here is notable. They solely depend on the adults in their social and emotional wellbeing. In this period, the children mainly learn through copying of what the adults in their lives do. Stage 2 (4-8 years) This stage is crucial because the children have started to engage in play. They are able to consider the children whom they play with as their friends. Stage 3 (8-11 years) This is the phase where the children learn to help their friends to grow and develop together. This is vital in creating confidence in the friends they develop. Question 2 The extent to which children socially belong to a group of peers in principal in the way a child develops (Barron 235). The process of children friendship can be categorized into four main areas; the children who are liked, those that are liked and disliked at the same time, children who have been neglected, and those are popular among the peers. The children have been alienated from the rest are likely to stagnate in their development socially, these often lead to social stigma that makes them have low self-esteem. This problem should be handled early enough through counseling of the children who have been rejected to prevent these children from considering themselves freaks or developing emotional problems such as depression (Barron 235). The children should be given an opportunity to choose the type of friends to hang around with. Question 3 Most of the children are forced to yield to peer-influence because of the belief that the peers have immense understanding on some given aspects. Another of children feels uncomfortable going against the implications made by the group (Cialdini 592). The urge to belong to a given group usually makes the children do as per the group expectations to prevent them from being kicked out. However, some children are forced to walk out of the group based on the firm teachings that have been taught to them by either their parents or the mature adults that they interact. The youths from the affluent families are at risk of poor adjustment because everything that they need is provided as opposed to the other peers from middle backgrounds (Cialdini 592).
