Characteristics of a Professional
A professional is one who engages in an activity to grow extensively including oneself and at the service of others. In the context of ethics, professionalism is termed as an avenue for improvement in personal conduct. This means that any professional is to take work seriously in terms of punctuality and working closely with his or her fellow colleagues which aims at improving one’s level of discipline and generosity.
CITATION Pat06 \l 1033 (Debeljuh, 2006) observes the ethical dimension of professional work and outlines basic values to be possessed by a professional. This values are said to be out of the usual technical capabilities of an individual and are more human in nature. These virtues bring in aspects of responsibility, trustworthiness and spirit of service in day to day work engagements.
A professional is responsible in his or her work. This in an ethical perspective will justify dignity in service to other people. Therefore, a professional will be able to keep his or her documents for reference in current emerging situations. Responsibility brings in a key aspect of dedication in service to other people in various scenario of professional work. An example is for persons entrusted with holding money in investment groups who aim at accumulating funds for future development projects. The individual keeping deposits should be responsible enough to avoid unnecessary occurrences such as embezzlement of funds to nurture his or her dignity to service of others.
Time is a key factor in business operations to determine duration of attaining set production targets. A professional is a good time manager in his or her work. This is about punctuality in reporting to work. As a professional one should inform his boss that he has come to avoid any doubt of not appearing to work and observe time management in his work. Reports and other information should be brought in first hand and not postponed to perform all work engagements in a prompt manner.
Additional characteristics of professionals by CITATION Aas11 \l 1033 (Dogra, 2011) include good organizational skills, appropriate ethical behavior and emulatory presentation. The author advocates for observing ethical practices among professionals. Professionals are supposed to be honest and carry their work with the level of integrity it deserves. The author goes on to say according to rules of professional etiquette that in event where a professional feels his honesty and integrity compromised he should step foot down and stand for himself and not wait the situation go.
Professionals are said to possess good organizational skills. This should be observed such that the place of work must be neat and clean. In addition, papers and files should be well arranged to be retrieved for presentation. As a professional one should also be prepared well to address key issues to avoid instances of fumbling in front of others.
