Question 1. Regardless of which method we use, the overall research questions (not the data collection questions) should be broad enough to not have a simple yes/no response. Why is it important to avoid writing research questions in a form leading to Yes or No answers? How can a researcher prepare research questions to avoid this shortcoming?
Research questions provide the guideline for the conduct of the study. Therefore, it is important to avoid framing them in a way that the definitive answer would be Yes or No. A researcher needs to prepare the questions in a clear, focused, concise, and empirically answerable manner. Framing the questions in a verifiable manner means that the research design can prove the reliability of the findings of a study.
Question 2. What is the importance of drawing conclusions about your findings in terms of where they fit into the body of research within a field of study?
Drawing conclusions validates the results of the study. It ascertains that the inductive and deductive process of the scientific study were correctly used, and that a proper methodology was followed. The credible conclusions enable the researcher to make viable recommendations based on the findings of the field of study.
Part One: Quantitative Case Study
Career Paths of Women Working in Leadership Positions within Intercollegiate Athletic Administration by Glenna G. Bower and Mary A. Hums
1. Research problem:
Scholars in sports management have been focusing their attention on the careers of women who have management positions in the several sectors of the sports industry. However, limited research has been done in relation to the careers of women who work in administrative positions in the intercollegiate athletics. There is a need to have an understanding of the women who hold positions within intercollegiate athletic administrations (Bower & Hums, 2013). 2. Purpose of the research: Based on the findings of Acosta and Carpenter (2012), it is clear that there is a deficiency in female mentors in sports, and gender stereotypes are contributing factors. Due to the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions especially in intercollegiate athletic administrations, there is a need to take a closer look at their career paths. The purpose of the research is to fill the gap of limited ‘recent’ research on the career paths of female personnel in the intercollegiate athletics administration (Bower & Hums, 2013). 3. Research question(s) and/or hypotheses: The general hypothesis is that gender stereotypes and the reducing number of female mentor’s in the sports field led to the decline in the number of women in leaderships position of the intercollegiate athletic administration (Bower & Hums, 2013). The research questions are,
How do the women in leadership positions beat gender stereotypes, and family to work-conflict?
What are the greatest challenges of holding leadership positions in the sports administration?
What career advice do the women in leadership positions offer to those seeking to pursue these careers?
What are the least enjoyable aspects of their jobs?
4. Data collection technique and instrumentation: The data collection technique used was a survey conducted on a total 518 women working in junior colleges, Canadian colleges, NAIA schools, and women working in the intercollegiate athletic administration. The demographics were arranged in tables and presented in terms of income range, level of education, number of respondents who played organized sport, total number of respondents and percentage of respondents within a given income range, level of education, and those that played an organized sport. Survey Monkey was used in the instrumentation and collection of responses from various divisions of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The study was custom-designed to suit people from all walks of life including, disabled and people with language barriers (Bower & Hums, 2013). 5. Data analysis approach: SPSS. 19.0 was used to calculate the averages of the data collected. Means were used to collect the quantitative data after uploading it into HyperReseacher 2.7, which organized and condensed the findings. Investigators analyzed and coded the data using the comparative analysis strategy as per Lincoln & Guba (1985). Each content area was reviewed separately and similar comments were grouped into one (Bower & Hums, 2013). 6. Evaluate logical flow and coherence across the multiple elements of the study: The research findings were slightly clustered. However, it is worth noting that the information was well organized, which created a good flow of the research paper (Bower & Hums, 2013). 7. Steps to ensure reliability and validity of research, analysis, and results: 
To ensure credibility and reliability of the study, respondents, and results, the researchers compared the findings with those of past literature (Olson, 2006). The demographics of the respondents were similar to the literature of past studies (Lapchick, 2011).
Part Two: Qualitative Case Study
Women in Love and Men at Work: The Evolving Heterosexual Couple by Narissra M. Punyanunt-Carter, Stacy L. Carter, Courtney Casey, JP Destefano, and Meagan Schaffner.
1. Research problem:
Few people understand the gender differences and the role it plays in an individual’s feelings, emotions, and behaviors on an everyday basis. Stereotypically, men are known to be less emotional while women portray a high sense of emotions. Little research explains this phenomenon, which warrants a closer look into the matter (Punyanunt-Carter et al., 2013).
2. Purpose of the research:
The purpose of the study is to show the emotional state of both men and women in a heterosexual relationship. The study aims to prove that typical men and women build their relationships based on how they differ from each other. The research seeks to emancipate the public on the gender differences between men and women, and the compromises they have to make to achieve a successful relationship (Punyanunt-Carter et al., 2013).
3. Research question(s) and/or hypotheses:
Why are women more overbearing with their feelings and emotions in the relationship?
The hypothesis is that women are more emotional, and they tend to share much information than their male partners.
How do men and women view commitment in a relationship? Do they have different perspectives?
Women tend to believe that they should only be committed to one person. On the other hand, men show less commitment and tend to have more than one sexual partner.
Are women interested in the fairy tale romance or do they want something different?
Women actually want to be romanced and treated like princesses by their prince charming.
Why is it that men appear to work harder in their relationships?
Women are more emotionally demanding than men. The men tend to put in much effort into buying gifts and being there for their partners (Punyanunt-Carter et al., 2013).
4. Data collection technique and instrumentation: The results of the research were obtained using a qualitative interview conducted on sixteen heterosexual couples living in the United States. Half the participants were married while the other half were planning to get married. The respondents’ responses were based on their personal intimate relationships with their individual partners.
