Discussion: Effect of Marijuana on CNS and PNS I have selected marijuana as a drug for this discussion. It consists of several active compounds and the most important or well-known is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It affects the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS) differently as per the dose and the individual BMI. The most common effect on the CNS is the euphoria and altered perception. It usually binds the cannabinoid receptors in the brain that ultimately change the mood. It directly affects the cerebellum in the brain and slows down the normal movements. The other important effect of marijuana is the relaxation and sedation. It is usually used for recreational purposes. It causes short-term memory impairment. Regular use of marijuana also causes difficulty in creating new memories. Marijuana can also damage the normal motor skills in the human body. It causes difficulty in running, balancing, and the movements in the body parts. It causes the activation of cannabinoids that are referred to as munchies (Archie & Cucullo, 2019). Marijuana also affects the PNS. It has THC and cannabidiol that help to reduce the pain in the different body parts. It also uses anti-inflammatory effects and ultimately affects the PCS. THC is usually effective in the regulation of the body temperature. This drug usually feels the warmth in the body. These are some of the important effects on our PNS. There are some other harmful effects of marijuana because of its long-term use. This includes long-term memory impairment and addiction.
