Introduction
Native American studies are educational programs that are fully devoted to offer quality academic skills to local students and researchers. Contemporary aspects or historical understanding of engaged native people to the presence of the society. It originally came to the effect since from the colonial era as historical understanding. American native studies were established in Europe there after it enters to the American continent in 1492. The department was established to offer and press forward quality education to the people of America and the surrounding people. Native American studies aim to meet the needs for the citizens through provision of research, services and teaching. Main goals of the department are to improve the historical intercultural and complex history to the local people. Native American studies offers different faculties of Bachelor of Arts minor and major degree programs.
The department offers educational programs and study in minor undergraduate programs. How however, most of colleges offers certificate programs through online, students can learn and write their exams online. They also, offer masters programs for the degree of arts in most of the universities. Most of students are indigenous. They gain multicultural aspects in major programs as foundation of curriculum as described by (Krupat pg 33). Native American studies (NAS) encourage the students through creativity and research efforts to participate in interdisciplinary. There are very many colleges, which provide this type of education in America, India, and Europe in general as described by (Krupat pg 33).
Students are encouraged to develop clear understanding of political status, research, historical backgrounds, teaching, cultural tradition, and innovation in America. Most of the programs offered investigate the basic areas at which they can understand the American ways of organizing their society and the way of living as described by (Krupat pg 33). Additionally, the indigenous students are taught different ways of examining the results of colonial invasion. They are also, equipped with knowledge for their political history. For instance, Dartmouth college that was founded in 1769 committed itself provide native American studies to the local people, this programs teaches research and interdisciplinary aspects. The college is at transforming political, economic, and social ways of people as described by (Krupat pg 33).
The Native American studies (NAS) involves teachers/lecturers with high level of expertise from the recognized diverse background for instance, the citizens of united state of America according to (Krupat pg 27). Other, are non-American natives from Britain, Russia and Canada. This program helps students to do research in various fields where by they interact in both class works and in the field. The students are able to learn, share, and understand the environment. Some of courses offered in Native American studies include history, literature, anthropology, environment studies, English, government, and ethnology. However, due to improved technology the department has committed to develop education to the students at affordable cost according to (Krupat pg 27).
The program brings out consideration to the mentors, guests, tribal leaders, community activists, and students according to (Champagne pg 88). Native American studies (NAS) hails alumni to become an international professional department in provision of quality education to both indigenous and international students. They are doing so through used of online programs to reach students from other nations. Through provision of social aspects, NAS educates the participate in community development whereby they encourage development and discourages demoralization of minor groups such as disabled persons, women, immigrants and refuges according to(Champagne pg 12). It is through native American studies were the students can exchange their views on current trend in historical, political and economic evident. The most important element is that through cultural theory and critical social NAS creates understanding through dialogue according to (Champagne pg 92).
Native people in America have committed themselves to benefit from Native American studies programs. However, some few naive do not see the benefit of these special programs as described by (Krupat pg 33). Thus, they live uneducated because of ignorance.
