Solar Energy
Notably, renewable energy is fronted as an alternative for deleterious sources of energy such as fossil fuels. Products that use solar energy have increased tremendously owing to their low cost and sustainability. In essence, solar energy is touted as environment-friendly, sustainable, and low cost as it is easily available. Solar technology is promising in the ever-changing technological landscape with their ability to be used anywhere there is sunlight (Bent 20). Moreover, their increasing energy output makes solar technology effective in homes and offices. The intrinsic qualities that make solar design affordable and essential utility are premised on their affordability, access to sun rays in developing countries, and increasing demand for fossil fuel leads to the need for solar energy to reduce overreliance. Moreover, solar energy is essential in households owing to their comfort (Camacho 12). This paper explores the reasons why solar energy is the best alternative source of energy. The lingering question is whether the solar energy is a perfect source of energy owing to its affordability or sustainability.
Since time immemorial, the sun has been the source of life and energy on the earth as it supplies the planet with light and heat. Advancement of technology has enabled human beings to harness the energy from the sun using solar panels (Sustainable Stevie 5). The solar energy has proved to be reliable and cheaper solutions to the challenges of global warming. The technology is effective as it has been able to reduce the dependency on polluting and expensive fuels. Solar energy is an effective means of producing power for domestic and light industrial duties. They can be used in cooking, lighting, and powering electrical appliances. Since solar energy is freely available, it has the potential of reducing the electrical bills incurred by 50%. In essence, solar energy is a technology that reduce operational costs, seeks to protect the environment, and protecting the future generation (Wengenmayr 16). In Europe, there has been an increase in the number of people using solar energy in their households.
Harnessing energy from the sun offers developing nations opportunity to exploit the natural resource that is limitless and renewable. The availability of solar energy in many countries is a good opportunity for countries to use solar technology to power their homes. Its market is increasing owing to their less cost-related compared to electricity (Foster 22). They offer good returns to the environment as they prevent pollution as they are less harmful. There are other renewable sources of energy, but solar is inexpensive to tap compared to water and the wind. Moreover, wind energy is unreliable while water resources are diminishing owing to the effects of global warming. The increase in a number of manufacturers makes solar technologies cheaper. Countries located along the equator and expansive desert regions should adopt solar technology (Camacho 14). However, the concern has been the ability of solar technologies to produce the required amount of energy to meet the demand. Many of areas in desert regions have plenty of sun rays but lack biomass and water.
Solar energy is the best alternative sine it fulfills the criteria for deciding the appropriate source of energy (Foster 16). They are available in the near future and long-term, the cost of developing it is lower and have best environmental effects when transporting, extracting, or transporting. However, the challenge is the amount of net energy yield, which is lower compared to geothermal or hydroelectricity. Traditional sources of energy such as wood have continued to destroy the environment. The degrading ecosystem requires urgent measures to reduce the cascading effects of environmental pollution. The land has been overused, soil erosion and arbitrary cutting down of trees are serious concern (Bent 26). To encourage sustainability, reliable, practical, healthier, and cost-effective power from solar should be used.
Expanding technologies and competition created by solar technology increase the need for embracing solar power. According to Foster, “developing renewable energy resources would save money, create two to five times more jobs, and eliminate the need for oil imports” (p22). He adds that they are environmentally friendly and increases the economic, military, and environmental security. Moreover, the increased incentives by the government for solar projects shows that the technology is essential. Increased funding for solar projects and incentives will help researchers and manufacturers produce effective technology and systems that will increase energy yields. Higher electricity bills, increased number of manufacturers, enthusiasm consumers on green energy, and marketing strategies for solar energy has increased its uptake in the market.
Moreover, the increased funding by international shows the commitment of the world in reducing the effects of deleterious sources of energy (Camacho 56). The argument is that solar energy is the best place to improve the living standards of the poor and provide a clear supply of power to developing countries, who are worst affected by global warming. John says that “solar power is being used for programs which develop education, water supply, and healthcare in these countries.” The global interest on solar energy proves that it is sustainable and cost effective. Investing in solar energy has been attributed to the ability of the technology to bring comfort and heat to homes (Wengenmayr 39). They are easy to use and provide sustainable energy for homes. In essence, solar technology is synonymous with satisfaction and well-being.
Urban planners, city officials, architects, and designers have begun to develop innovative solar technologies to encourage the use of renewable sources of energy. These technologies are critical in reducing the cost of producing energy (Sustainable Stevie 9). Designers and architects in the manufacturing industry for solar products are developing innovative and low-cost products using inexpensive yet sustainable materials. They will embrace the idea of incorporating energy efficient systems and appliances in homes in new developments. Modern technology and knowledge on construction should be used to create environmental friendly solar products. The effect of global warming is affecting the world; hence, the need for cheap, sustainable, and durable solar appliances (Foster 24). This is because they are advantageous as they enhance cost savings owing to cheap materials used in developing the products.
Those opposing solar technology as the best source of energy argues that they are intermittent, which means their access is limited by time (Wengenmayr 36). For instance, there is no access to sunlight during the night, early morning, or during th...
