Investing in The Coca-Cola Company
The Coca-Cola Company is registered on the New York Stock Exchange and referred to as Coca-Cola KO (Morningstar 2019a). The business was established in 1886 (Coca-Cola 2011), a remarkable feat given that the average lifespan for a Standard & Poor 500 Company is now 15 years (Hill, Mellon & Goddard 2018).The Company has its global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America and is a manufacturer, distributor and marketer of non-alcoholic beverages, concentrates and syrups (Marketline 2015, p.4). In 2019, the Coca-Cola brand was rated 5th most valuable brand globally by Forbes, the highest rating for a non-technology brand, and for a food and beverage brand; the brand value assigned was $US59.2 billion, an increase of 3% since 2018, and with brand revenues of $US 28.3 billion (Forbes 2019). Coca-Cola also owns Diet Coke, Fanta and Sprite, in total four of the five top non-alcoholic sparking beverage brands (Marketline 2015)
The Company’s closing share price on Friday 24 May 2019 was $49.61, the price has varied between $US 35.56 and $US 50. 84 over the past five years (Morningstar 2019c). On 27 May 2014, the price opened at $US 40.56 and closed at $US40.77 (Nasdaq 2019). The variation in share price and the volume traded over the five year period, is graphically illustrated in figure 1.
