Question
This assignment assesses ability to critique two culturally divergent global television news services by analyzing their online news content.
Introduction
News coverage by major Global News Agencies is one of the critical topics in the world today. Various debates have revolved on the mode in which the events in some countries are covered by these outlets. Many of the most influential global news channels have the origin of either Britain or the USA. On many occasions, they have been accused of exporting western culture to the weak societies around the world. Additionally, the method which is used to cover and give attention to events depends on the place where it has happened. Not surprising, nations which feel they are being left out, or that their picture has been tainted have established their own outlets to counter the western media influence. The angle of reporting used by the western and non-western global news televisions is very different from all perspectives. In this essay, I will discuss news reporting of Aljazeera and CNN television channels. CNN is American cable television that grew its reputation from live coverage of events such as the Gulf War and Rwandan Genocide. On the other hand, Aljazeera was started in 1996 by the Emir of Qatar to give a different angle of covering Arab matters. It was initially broadcasting in Arabic but it eventually started an English news broadcast in 2006 (Moran 2013). I will detail and compare the coverage of Amazon fires in Brazil by the two media outlets from 21.8.19 to 31.8.19.
