1 Introduction
The world is changing rapidly due to globalization and the emergence of the internet. The manner in which businesses manage and transfer information today is becoming easier and quicker than it was in the past. This occurrence has enabled positive changes to be made in various information systems. One such alteration involves the use of cloud computing services as a means of managing knowledge and information. The cloud computing services refer to the practice of utilizing networks of remote servers that are on the internet to manage and store information and data. This change is better than conducting the same activities on personal computers or local servers that are prone to malware or malfunction. In this regard, finding out more information about cloud computing is very important.
This paper, therefore, focuses on discussing four distinct aspects of cloud computing. The first one involves explaining two main differences between two cloud computing services, which are PaaS (Platform as a Service) and SaaS (Software as a Service). The second aspect includes discussing two central factors contributing to the development of cloud computing. The third element involves assessing three primary challenges associated with the implementation of cloud based services and their implications. The last aspect is identifying measures to deal with such challenges. All these aspects are discussed while considering business organizations.
2 Two Main Differences between PaaS and SaaS
Cloud computing is a concept whose definition is already given above. One other factor that is worth mentioning is the fact that cloud computing has three layers or what can be considered three different services. The various services include PaaS (Platform as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service), and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) (Sowmya, Deepika, & Naren 2014). These services are distinct in varied ways, and their differences are embedded in and can be attributed to their defining features. This paper focuses on only two main differences between two of the three cloud computing services, which include PaaS and SaaS.
PaaS
Comprehending the two main differences between these two cloud computing services requires understanding the meaning of the same, which can be achieved by giving a brief description. If there were no platforms, there would be no applications and no requirement for cloud service infrastructure, hence, the need for PaaS. Regmi (2015) explains that their existence enables engineers to assemble and conveys their applications to the cloud. The objective is to have the capacity to rapidly and productively plan and send applications, and make them work dependably. Some regular PaaS suppliers are Google's Application Engine, Microsoft’s Azure, and so on. This description means that considering PaaS, the limit given to the client is just to pass on onto the Cloud Foundation those applications that are acquired or client made (Gamaleldin 2013). He or she cannot oversee or regulate the key cloud infrastructure. However, the customer has governance over the attainable application helping circumstance setups and sent applications.
SaaS
On the other hand, when it comes to SaaS, it is whereby an extension of cloud computing services exist from platforms and infrastructure to user programs and business systems. This extension also runs from CRM (Customer Relationship Management) application’s suites and profitability applications to software programs which oversee the applications in the cloud and disposition and even empower the production of hybrid clouds (Regmi 2015). In this regard, this cloud computing service is incredibly wide and runs the extension. Its two main differences with PaaS is that, unlike PaaS, the client possesses the capacity to utilize a merchant's applications working on a cloud foundation. Gamaleldin (2013) clarifies that such applications are frequently open from various customer apparatuses through an interface. Nonetheless, the client cannot control or regulate the key cloud framework or even limits on individual applications.
3 Two Main Factors Contributing To the Growth of Cloud Computing Services
The prominence of the idea of cloud based services continues developing over all ventures. In fact, Black (2013) explains that the concept has turned into a technological wave and research into its adoption is growing. An ever growing number of organizations are beginning to utilize cloud computing services for their products, applications, or frameworks. The advantages related to this concept are gigantic. Be that as it may, because of the quickly developing market for the same and dynamic specialized data, most firms are uncertain of how to continue with the relocation into cloud computing (Nedev 2014). Moreover, many endeavors have pushed back on distributed computing because of security concerns. Nonetheless, various factors still exist that contribute to the growth of cloud computing services in diverse organizations. This paper concentrates on only two main ones, which include increased agility of any business and reduction of capital expenditure.
Increased Business Agility
Considering the first factor, which is increased agility of any business, it is an element that refers to the capacity of a firm to adjust quickly and cost effectively in light of fluctuations in the firm condition (Nedev 2014). This description highlights the desire of almost every firm to be flexible to be able to deal with various shifts in the markets within which they operate. Business agility, therefore, can be associated with the success of the business and its ability to advance to a sustainable competitive advantage over its competitors. With its little beginning charge, cloud computing can offer firms the capacity to react to commercial requests snappier, enabling them to convey arrangements rapidly. Nedev (2014) claims that it can likewise enable organizations to guarantee their workers have moment access to primary business data, utilizing any gadget anyplace. Such benefits of business agility that a business can accrue when it adopts cloud computing services make it a major contributing factor to the adoption of those specific cloud computing services.
Reduction of Capital Expenditure
Similarly, reduction of capital expenditure is another significant factor that contributes to the adoption of cloud computing services. Because the majority of firms in the world today are profit oriented, reducing capital expenditure to enable accruing of massive profits is one of the goals of such companies. Nedev (2014) explains that the majority of cloud computing provisions have received the compensation as it is being utilized model of billing, while the rest charge on a membership premise. The former enables clients to profit by a diminished capital use since they expend assets as an administration by simply paying for what they utilize. By sharing processing assets between a few clients, usage rates are fundamentally enhanced, which implies lessened framework costs (Nedev 2014). Such occurrences reduce capital expenditure tremendously while increasing profits that can be accrued.
4 Three Major Challenges, and Their Implications Associated With Cloud Based Services Adoption
Even though the cloud grounded services adoption is linked to many benefits to business organizations, it is always faced with several challenges that have clear implication to the said business firms. Some of the greatest challenges that this paper focuses on include unskilful personnel, budget constraints, and issues t...
