Background
The original price is the opening price of a particular stock as taken from Yahoo! Finance on April 2, 2017 while the price on the current date is the closing price on June 2, 2017. The assumption is that I invested approximately $10,000 in each stock to build my portfolio, consisting of four groups of stock from different industries. The investment in each stock was not supposed to exceed $10,000, giving approximately $40,000 in total investments. Whole numbers are considered for the number of shares. There was no stock split in any of the four stocks.
Discussion of Portfolio Performance
Reports and analyses indicate that the stock prices were frequently affected by firm-specific risks, such as the appointment of new CEOs and successful launch of new products. During the period I invested, the effect of America having Donald Trump as the President had already leveled off. Netflix meets my expectations since I expected it to give higher returns. It falls into the category of companies that will still exceed the average performance as subscriptions increase in its newer markets. I still expect it to have one of the highest revenue growths among my list of companies.
The performance of Starbucks stock surpasses my expectations because it is one of the large organizations for which I did not expect high returns. However, I expected stable earnings due to successful branding. I think the company's expected expansion and ability to meet profit estimates are what have provided the great returns that almost match Netflix's.
Ford Motor did not meet my expectations. I am aware that American automakers are not doing well based on international competitiveness, but I expected that Ford would provide me with small positive results for my investments.
The Intel Corporation stock did not meet my expectations. As a manufacturer of semiconductors and with a strong brand, I expected that it would provide the second highest returns in my list with Netflix providing the highest.
