Do we Become Used to bad News?
In today’s world, news reporters and anchors have to apply a delicate balance regarding what they report and broadcast news in the popular media. However, it seems that people have become accustomed to negative news which always seems to attract more attention as opposed to positive news. Considering that we rely on the available media; be it print or digital media for information, the news reported and broadcasted through media channels have a great impact on the people. In most cases, it can only be assumed that journalists and news reporters conduct due diligence with regards to news reporting.
Good or bad, news should be treated as information. This puts to question why people are attracted to negative news pieces. Analysts argue that the attraction to negative news is as a result of the fear of the unknown. When something tragic happens, people are often curious to know what happened next. According to Stephens, a positive incidence or occurrence is often predictable and may not elicit the intended impact (16). The general feeling among the people is that perhaps, there are more negative incidences across the world as opposed to positive incidences.
