* Overview of the grievances the colonists had against British Crown
America was colonised by Britain and other colonies, but the British were the mother of colonists in America. The domination of British rule in America faced stiff opposition from the colonists and Americans due to disagreement on many issues that they felt were on their neither support nor help. For instance, British sought it wise to gain as much wealth as possible from the colonies. This they could do by imposing taxes on the colonies and Americans too.
* Reasons why the colonists wanted independence and why they were angry
The beginning of the quest for independence started when there were many grievances that existed between the colonies and the British. The Americans later joined the colonists in opposing the British way of doing things. Since many colonists came from Britain, they had common characteristics ((Ramsay and Cohen)). The British possessed all the powers to make laws and these laws could negatively affect the economy of other 13 colony states. These laws were imposed on the Americans and other colonies, the British were not subjected to these rules. The Americans and other colonies were certainly denied benefits from the newly enacted policies. They also protested about non-representation in the British parliament where laws were made and they felt that views needed to be included in every discussion in the parliament. The colonists too protested about these acts and their protests were in support of the Americans that led to a revolutionary war.
* Other events that transpired leading to independence
There were many causes of Revolutionary war in America, for instance, the French and Indian war that lasted for 7 years, was caused by territorial disagreement. The war, which ended in 1763, left the British with huge debts that they had to struggle to pay back (Berra). The only available means to collect the money to pay back was by taxing Americans and the 13 colonies. The Americans were opposed to this and they argued that the British were involved in this war to strengthen its territory and gain more wealth out of it. The stamp Act of 1765 required that colonists be paying tax to inform a stamp and be provided with various licences. The Americans opposed this too and ended up killing the British Tax collectors. The Boston massacre worsened the relationship between the British, Colonists and Americans; British army brought this massacre when they fired the angry mob. Many people protested against this act. The relationship between the Bostonians continued to deteriorate when angry Bostonians threw British tea vessel into the harbour in protest of the tea tax that was introduced by the British. This happening led the British to enact intolerable act.
It is evident that a number of events pushed for the independence of America. The Americans and other colonies, who felt harsh treatment and denial of representation and participation in issues that were directly affecting them, incapacitated the tough and inhuman acts of British.
