Causes of the Political Revolutions in the 18th to Mid-19th Century
The political revolutions in the west from the late 18th to the mid of the 19th century were caused by the Enlightenment, the emergence of the middle class and industrialization. The Enlightenment had a great impact in influencing the revolutions that occurred in the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century. People grew aware of their natural rights, social contract, individualism, and the emphasis for a reason (Parker 32). In this regard, people staged revolutions against governments that failed to honor the natural rights such as property, liberty, freedom of speech, equal access to education, and life without punishment (Parker 32).
There was the emergence of the need that the society work together for common good, general will, and having free and unregulated markets (Parker 34). The emergence of the middle social class brought about a conflict between the racial and social classes. These conflicts caused several revolutions except the American Revolution (Parker 36). Industrialization was associated with economic problems such as increased taxation of the lower social classes, poor harvests, and inflations which sparked the rebellion.
