Society and the Differences Between Men and Women
One of the things that I find most striking about the differences between men and women in our society as it relates to their bodies and physical appearance is the differences in how we are taught to dress. From a young age, boys and girls are encouraged to dress in ways that accentuate their gender-specific physical features (Lunceford). For example, girls are typically told to wear dresses and skirts that show off their legs, while boys are typically told to wear pants that cover their legs. The practice of exaggerating the physical differences between men and women further emphasizes the existing disparities between the sexes.
To reimagine me in a society restructured so that these differences would not be as evident to me, I would have to imagine a world in which boys and girls were not taught to dress in ways that accentuate their gender-specific physical features. In this world, everyone would dress in comfortable clothing for them, regardless of their sex. It would allow people to see each other as individuals rather than members of a particular gender.
Society today exaggerates/emphasizes the physical differences between men and women by how men and women are marketed differently.
