Types of Ohm Meters
This following is a brief description of the multi range ohmmeter, shunt ohm meter, safety ohm meter and Meg ohm meter.
* Multi range ohm meters: Multirange ohmmeters can measure a wide range of resistance values. The ohmmeter range is variable and as such, the instrument can measure any resistance value (Bobrow 412).
* Shunt ohm meter: Comprises of a battery and a variable resistor in series with a meter. The unknown resistor is connected in shunt with the ohmmeter. Such ohmmeters are suitable for the measurement of low-value resistors (Bobrow 413).
* Safety Ohm meters: These ohm meters are normally insulated, primarily because they are used to measure the resistance of explosives, continuity and resistance of electrical bonds. They can only measure resistances ranging from 1mΩ to 20kΩ (Bobrow , 412).
* Meg ohm meter: A Meg ohm meter measures high resistances in the range of megohm. It basically comprise of a hand driven generator and a measuring device. Such ohmmeters are useful for the measurement of high va...
