Is addiction a disease?
To understand clearly what this question wants, it is important to know first what the two terms mean, that is, addiction and disease. The disease can be defined as any harmful changes from the normal functional state of an organism. Generally, a diseased organism exhibits signs and symptoms which indicates its abnormal state. The only way to return to a normal state is to take medications. On the other hand, addiction can be defined as a psychological and physical inability to cease consumption of things like drugs, substances, and chemicals. The term addiction does not only refer to taking substances, but it also involves the inability to cease partaking in things like gambling, eating. In some circumstances, addiction can make a person take the medication in order to come to a normal condition. Based on the definition of these terms, it is clear that addiction is a disease. Therefore, this paper is going to explain why addiction is a disease.
