Effectiveness of Online Nursing Education
1.0 CHAPTER 1
1.1 INTRODUCTION
This unit will focus on the background of the research by highlighting the effectiveness of online nursing education. In addition, it will illustrate the validation to the aims, topic, and research question, the aims of the research, the general objectives, importance of this study, and define terms related to the research.
1.2 Background Information
The use of online learning regarding nursing education has been questionable for quite a long time, on whether it is effective as the traditional learning method. A systematic analysis which scrutinized nearly 100 quasi-experimental and experimental researchers concluded that almost two-thirds of the students who engaged in online education outdid their classrooms colleagues (Boltz et al., 2016). According to the systematic analysis, it was found that online nursing education was not only as excellent as traditional nursing learning, but it was better.
For the traditional nursing educational situation, it involves typically a professor coming physically into the classroom to teach. Even though technological resources and tools may be used at the classroom level, the students regularly become inactive receivers of information, since they agitatedly try to note down what the professor has to say (Button et al., 2014); (Cook et al., 2013). One of the professors who has used all the learning techniques suggests that traditional form of nursing education has not yet integrated and harnessed the extraordinary technical nursing resources which are capable of transforming the learning and teaching processes.
Several institutions such as universities and colleges which offer online nursing education, tutors have probably been replaced or eliminated by interactive seminars (Cook et al., 2013). The online nursing education presents to students all the nursing courses and programs to be undertaken during a specific period of learning. These interactive seminars have various uses that include the provision of platforms for faculties to give information which is not yet obtainable from existing textbooks. Also, they can address contemporary topics that nursing students are concerned about, or by answering general questions from the course content.
The use of online learning methods like seminars, help the learners to make relations between readings, written assignments, and the online discussion (Campbell & Daley, 2013). The tutor promotes such relations through clarifying ideas or assisting learners to think about a specific issue critically. At the end of such a learning process, learners do not merely memorize the material for exam purposes, but also they show mastery of the material, which is then evaluated by the faculty. In sum, distance or online education offers a deeper intellectual form of learning for nurses.
1.3 Validation
Online nursing education in the recent past has continued to be increasingly used by healthcare professionals in learning purposes (Cant and Cooper, 2010). Meanwhile, there has not been any agreeable definition of online learning. Globally, it has been recognized as the internet centred way of learning, as opposed to the traditional form of learning where there was face to face communication. Online learning, therefore, presents all learning resources virtually. It often takes many ways of using Skype, video conferencing in the lecture rooms, and many other forms.
1.4 Aims
This dissertation paper aims to explore the effectiveness online nursing education. For instance, whether it can bring distinctive aspects of nursing experience, that is shaping the professionalism of nursing when compared to the traditional form of nursing education.
1.5 Objectives
A] To understand the effectiveness of online nursing education.
B] To illustrate the various ways in which online learning for nursing takes place.
C] To identify the significance and limitations of online nursing education.
D] To identify the current estimated value of nursing students learning through the online method.
1.6 Research Question
What is the effectiveness of online nursing education in the global context today?
1.7Importance of this Research
The outcomes of this study will help in answering the research question on the effectiveness of online nursing education. Therefore, it will be a significant research for both students and tutors who are engaging in online learning as well as traditional learning to identify which education method is more beneficial to their careers. Also, with the recommendations which will be identified, this research will help in identification of the best approaches towards online education which can be implemented, and improve the already known online education programs.
1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
Online learning: this process involves presenting all the necessary learning resources to learners through the internet and offering tutoring services through avenues such as video conferencing.
Nursing education: it is a way of preparing nurses for administrative roles by helping them develop clinical reasoning and care planning.
Peer-Wise: an established online educational tool which enables learners to share, write, discuss, answer, and even rate several choice questions under or no contribution from the instructor.

2.1 LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Bland et al., 2011, online nursing education programs are rapidly growing and increasing. These education programs are issued subordinate to doctoral degrees. With the increasing number of online nursing education in nursing, faculties must be competent and hold skills necessary for the online nursing environment. Efficient teaching practices foster student satisfaction, learning, and achievement in the nursing field. This literature review on the effectiveness of online nursing education strategies reveals different and several frequent themes of collective activities like use of discussion boards (Boltz et al., 2016). A researcher examined online nursing learning and found that various factors are significant to make sense of collective caring. These factors comprise the capability to deliver respectfully, in time, by encouraging, allowing considerate interactions between students and faculty.
Button et al., (2014), shows that a gap lies in the qualitative studies that con...
