The study of women’s sexuality I the Victorian era was mainly based on more of ideologies as however much the medical opinion had an authoritative section of public opinion; it was convoluted and could not accurately give out the reason behind the notion which tells that women had less of carnal and sexual desire. Researchers had a hard time coming out with an authentic explanation of the notion for none of it had scientific basis and much of it was tenets. . The concept of lack of sexual desire brought out a cluster of ideas about a woman's carnal nature and her ethical nature which was more about her drives and temperament than about her actions.
Sex and gender roles in the Victorian era between men and women were a double standard of prescriptions pertaining to their sexuality practices. Both genders were chastised for fornication but when it came to adultery, a man had more freedom than the woman as the lady was taken as a property to the man and therefore when a woman committed adultery it was taken an immeasurable damage of property. However, this is not replicated if the man is the one who is committing adultery. Nonetheless, as years passed by, the emergence of middle-class income earners, puritanism leveled down and so did literacy.
