The Value of Theatre
Name:
Institutional Affiliation:
Over my years of theatre experience, I have realised that theatre has a myriad of benefits. Theatre is perceivable as the exposition of imagined or real world human experience. People get the opportunity to discover their innermost feelings and desires. Young children learn about actions and consequences: who they really are, life, and customs and beliefs from a theatre experience. Students learn how to express themselves, expand their skills and knowledge, and most importantly, explore art as a vehicle for day to day life (Shaw, 2003).
In addition to the above, I have also realised that theatre is also beneficial to society as a whole. The workings of theatre work, which is social in nature, helps nurture the spirit of community. Theatre helps students develop deep and broad theatrical knowledge, in addition to lifelong connections to expressing oneself through theatre. However, to ensure that the before-mentioned has been achieved, enroling in a sequential programme is essential. The benefits mentioned beforehand are highly valuable; thus, paying for the theatre that would help me nurture my personality would be a prudent undertaking. Other advantages of the theatre experience are holistic communication through the hearts, senses, and minds of children, women, and men (Shaw, 2003).
If applicable within my community, I would be willing to pay the price owing to the immense benefits that theatre accrues to the community. Theatre work requires collaboration between technicians, artists, and audiences (Shaw, 2003). When applied within the communal framework, the theatre has been proven to enhance communication skills, and, by extension, self-esteem. Research on the impact of theatre on people’s everyday lives has shown that theatre can bring to being closure, higher confidence levels, and strong communal bonds (Gjærum and Ramsdale, n.d.). Also, I also discovered, first-hand, the positive impact of theatre on personality development and confidence. Two of my classmates, who were previously reserved, became bold and social after enroling in theatre classes continuously for three months.
