The circulatory system
The human circulatory system comprises the blood circulatory system whose transport fluid is blood and the lymphatic circulatory system whose transport fluid is lymph. The lymphatic system is comprised of lymph, lymphatic vessels, and lymph nodes. Blood circulatory system is made up of erythrocytes, leukocytes, vascular tissues, and platelets. The heart acts as a blood pump. The heart is made up of four chambers which are separated by a septum. Chambers on the upper side of the heart are called atria while those on the lower side are called ventricles. The vena cava transports blood into the right atrium which in turn delivers it into the right ventricle (Challice & viragh, 2013). Blood is pumped by the right ventricle into the lungs through the vessel called Pulmonary artery. All arteries apart from pulmonary artery transport blood with low oxygen concentration. Once in the lungs, blood releases carbon dioxide into the alveoli and gets loaded with oxygen from the alveolar space. Blood from the lungs is delivered into the left auricle by pulmonary vein. The left auricle empties its blood into the left ventricle which pumps it into the aorta, the main artery which in turn distributes blood throughout the body. Various arteries branch from the aorta to deliver blood to specific organs. Coronary artery conducts blood to the heart muscles; renal artery delivers blood from the aorta into the kidneys. Veins corresponding to organ arteries tak...
