By studying the garden peas, Mendel proposed his scientific theory explaining how genetic recombination takes place in living organisms (Griffiths, Wessler, Carroll, & Doebley, 2015). According to his theory, Mendel proposed three laws (laws of independent segregation, inheritance, and dominance) which explain possible results due to genetic recombination. Adhering to the Mendelian laws, back crosses can be used to infer possible parental genotypic make up based on the offspring genotype.
