Human cloning is the biological process of genetically replicating an identical copy of a human being. It happens naturally through the process of reproduction, although scientists are in the initial developmental stages of making it happen artificially. The artificial process bifurcates into therapeutic and reproductive cloning. Broken down, therapeutic cloning involves the reproduction of human body parts for medicinal transplants (Lew, 2018). Reproductive cloning, on the other hand, involves the genetic replication of entire human beings, a subject that is yet under ethical debate. Despite the ethical and biological reservations associated with human cloning, it is a progressive concept, given the medicinal benefits that it has so far been able to yield such as the provision of affordable donor organs and tissues as well as stem cell treatment.
Therapeutic cloning is a subset of human cloning that has been helpful to large numbers of patients who can otherwise not access donor organs and tissues.
