Signs and Symptoms
The nicotine drug is what causes smoking addiction which is found naturally in tobacco. However, tobacco is believed to contain about seventy carcinogens which can lead to the development of diseases related to smoking for example heart diseases, lung cancer, and stroke (Benowitz, 2010). These tobacco symptoms occasionally start within the first 30 minutes of the last use, and it depends on the level of addiction of the individual involved. The increased usage of those tobacco products daily may give rise to a variety of different symptoms. However, these symptoms can be from smokers or those who chew tobacco. The most common symptom is that an individual cannot stop smoking, after many attempts to stop it but it is very difficult. Also, the individual will continue using the drug despite developing different health problems like in the heart and the lungs. Those involved with the usage of tobacco will tend to avoid social or recreational activities to have time to smoke (DiFranza et al., 2007).
Furthermore, those who try to stop using the drug will experience withdrawal symptoms. The symptoms for nicotine withdrawal for tobacco smokers includes: increased cravings for nicotine products, sweating, prickling in the hands and feet, severe coughing, abdominal pains and nausea, headache, constipation and gas, difficulty in thinking, sore throat, insomnia, increased anxiety, excessive sensitivity, and irritability, unexpected weight gain, and depression.
