Morals are the first thing we see in the morning when we read the newspapers. They help in providing a guideline for the way of life. In our personal and economic lives, ethics are the rules for reference when going about our business. The notion that big businesses are always bad businesses is a debatable one CITATION Man12 \l 1033 (Velasquez, 2012). There are those who might support this and there are also those who have their own reasons to reject this. Mostly, this debate is mainly argued from the fact that these people compare big businesses with small ones. The effects that big businesses have on the environment, on the governments, the employees and the consumers are usually seen as a basis of whether to accept or reject the statement.
Those who may support this may argue on the basis of the main motive of big businesses. This motive is profit maximization. They do not care how they will achieve the maximum profit but that is what keeps them in business. Many big companies have been accused of tax evasion. They produce fake audited reports so as to pay a less amount of tax compared to the required tasks. These companies also mistreat their employees by not offering them proper remuneration or appreciation for their efforts. A good example is the IPhone factory workers in the United States whereby the workers earn an average of $300 a month. This means that these workers cannot afford the products that they are manufacturing. Big businesses are also seen as a monopoly or dictatorship. They always crush and stifle little competition that comes from the little and small businesses. With this power, they can control the prices in the market and hence can charge the customers the much they want. These businesses may also have adverse effects on the environment such as emitting harmful gases into the atmosphere or even getting rid of toxic waste materials by dumping them into the rivers and other water sources CITATION Wil14 \l 1033 (Watson, 2014).
