Ethical Dilemma is a set of complex to very complex situations which is strictly a mental conflict between different ethical principles and accepting one would transgress the other. Ethical dilemmas need not be strong or large that effect the organization or economy. Certain simple yet strong situations like the ones outlined below also construe ethical dilemmas:
As a cashier of a company, who manages day-to-day cash transactions in office; if there is a realization that the immediate supervisor is actually billing the company for some of his personal expenses, how is the situation to be handled?
If an individual uses company computers and develops a program that will cut expenses, can the individual claim ownership to it and sell it in the open market, or will it become a property of the company?
Can a bank teller access funds from a dormant account for personal use and even repay it back into that account?
The three situations listed above are classical examples of ethical dilemma. How does one handle these?
2. Moral Dilemma is again a conflicting and complex mental situation where one is forced to make a choice between two moral dimensions that could compromise the other. Moral Dilemmas arise in situations of laughing at seemingly innocuous racial jokes, or even when a supervisor is authorized to monitor the quality of the telephonic calls made and personal calls get monitored too.
3. The fundamental difference between moral and ethical dilemmas is purely from a philosophical point of view. To be precise, in the case of an ethical dilemma, it becomes a question of ethical integrity, whereas in moral dilemma, it is the question of organizational integrity.
These kind of ethical and moral issues have known to be occurring often in business, and most of the times people turn a nelson’s eye to them.
