The business world seems more diverse due to factors of international trade and globalization. Also, human immigration has established new work contexts characterized by people with different backgrounds. Such new growth has catalyzed effective leadership approaches where managers are in a position of meeting the followers’ needs and enhancing performance. The present trend has contributed towards the increase of programs and initiatives purposed to equip people with suitable competencies for operating in diverse organizations. There is the importance of establishing a strategic plan for how I would lead in a culturally sensitive and intelligent manner.
My strategic plan for how I can lead in a culturally sensitive and intelligent manner is based on the idea that the major goal of leadership is to guide, engage, empower, and inspire followers in a suitable way that guarantees that the desired objectives are achieved faster. Therefore, as a team leader and manager who need to succeed in a workplace characterized with employees from diverse cultures, I need to understand diversity consciousness (Cai, 2016). This concept is a necessary skill that guarantees that I am aware that diversity is a real thing in different units. Importantly, this skill is vital within leadership realms since it is likely to make me appreciate the concepts and ideas different followers give. As a result, I will be aware of their grievances that can limit effective performance such as culture, race, age, ethnicity, and gender. According to,,,,,if I excel in this field I am at a higher rate of creating reliable teams in proactive way and offer sufficient support. With such abilities and qualities, I will empower all my followers easily and attain positive outcomes whenever I am in any leadership position.
Additionally, I have many approaches that I can use to manage cross-cultural teams. The first one is being flexible through the adoption of scheduling and decision making. Such practice is likely to make me understand the team members’ priorities. For instance, diverse cultures focus on either a linear time construct or flexibility to complete a task and thus their individual needs should be respected. Another vital approach is promoting open communication, which will enable me as a leader to give every follower an opportunity to air their grievances. Falkheimer et al. (2018) stated that open communication lines are vital for higher efficiency. Inability to embrace open communication can make team members to feel less acknowledged by either dominant players in the group or management. Similarly, when trying to reach an agreement through virtual meetings, I can integrate this strategy by planning ahead and ensuring that I am sending the agenda earlier to actively stimulate each team members’ views.
