Impacts of Low Morale on Work Productivity
Managers make all efforts to supervise their employees to ensure they deliver the best to the company. However, there is a particular percentage of control that the workers retain over the effectiveness of their work. In this case, some attributes they have impact their productivity. Therefore, low morale affects productivity by diminishing returns, providing inadequate service, decreasing effectiveness, and increasing conflict.
Low morale enhances employee provision of inadequate service and diminishes returns. For example, highly motivated employees are generally happy to serve a good number of clients. In companies that are supposed to attend to many customers to increase sales, low morale can make them provide inadequate service. In this case, Cassar and Meier (2018) claim that employees can spend more time attending to one client, leading to time wastage. Also, their service could be poor, making the organization lose customers. Notably, when they act in such a manner, they diminish returns to the company.
The third way that low morale affects productivity is by decreasing employee effectiveness while increasing conflicts. Any manager understands that motivated workers are effective in delivering the best results. However, the same cannot be the case if they have low morale. In the example of the employees who serve twenty customers in an hour, low morale decreases effectiveness; they end up attending to five and doing a sloppy job. In addition, low morale affects productivity by increasing conflict within a company. Less motivated workers tend to start arguments with their colleagues or bosses. In this case, they are stressed and easily irritated. As a result, their output will not be sound, and the company may lose customers
