On the other hand, the management who is obligated to provide leadership must formulate sound policies in a form of strategic plan to steer organization’s growth. In this regard, both organizational structure and strategic plan must be seamlessly blended. This translates that both concepts must support each other for any organization to succeed. This paper explores the hierarchical structure in the Mayo Clinic and how it is aligned its strategic plan.
Organization's Mission, Vision and Critical Values of Mayo Clinic
Mission, vision and critical values are vital components that provide a layout on how a company will achieve its goals. According to Mayo Clinic's mission statement, the organization seeks to bring hope to humankind by immensely contributing to people's well-being and quality health by ensuring they access quality care via cohesive education, research and clinical practice (mayoclinic.org, 2016). The strategic planning model will adopt a sequential approach where activities of a particular phase guide the operations to the next stage.

It is important to formulate strategic goals that support the organization’s mission, vision and core values (David & John, 2005). The proposed strategic plan in Mayo Clinic involves the establishment to establish four new medical facilities that are research oriented outside Minnesota. A three year strategic plan will see the organization build hospitals that serve the low-end users. This strategic plan will align with the hospital's mission statement as it will instill hope both to middle and low-end users while integrating research, education and clinical practice. The clinic will be able to establish a new experience while earning more trust nationally. Implementing this strategic plan will prove that Mayo Clinic put all patients first, regardless of the social status elaborated by its core values.

Mayo Clinic has developed a flexible and efficient organizational structure that supports diversity and inclusion approach. This ensures that all individuals in the group are involved in the development and implementation of the strategies, policies, and programs. The CEO acts as the link between the corporate governance and the management. He ensures that the policies formulated by the board are implemented by the departmental managers.
