Advertisement is instrumental to business success. Customers cannot reach out to businesses when they are not aware of what the business offers to them. The key to business is to advertise. Advertising ensures that the products and services of the company are known to the world (Brick, 2012). However, there are some products that should not be advertised.
Products such as alcohol and drugs should not be advertised. Many teenagers are swayed into drug and substance abuse by fancy alcohol and drug adverts. Even though the advertisers caution consumers about excessive consumption, many people have become alcoholics and drug addicts because of increased awareness of the existence of alcohol and drugs (Brick, 2012).
Advertising alcohol and drugs attracts heavy consumption, and ultimately, alcoholism (Blane & Leonard, 2011). Both alcohol and drug abuse impact negatively on users’ education, health, community, and family. Drug abuse and alcohol drinking have been associated with crimes. Alcoholics and drug addicts are linked to more crimes than sober individuals (Blane & Leonard, 2011).
Addicts spend much money on alcohol and forget about families and other commitments. Some resort to stealing to sustain continue drinking, leading to high crime rates in the country. Excessive alcohol consumption puts the community at risk. The numbers of people dropping out of school as well as illiteracy level also increase due to adverts that make alcohol and drugs appear classy.
