STRATEGIC ROLE OF THE HR Student name Professor Institution Course Date Introduction Many are the times when the role of the human resource department has been questioned by people in the organization. A stereotypic view of the role of the HR in an organization is that their duty is to hire and fire people in the firm. That has resulted in a negative view of the HR and the departments associated with it (Robles and Belfort, 2010). Evident here is the fact that people do not understand the essence of the HR in the department. The HR has a strategic role to play in any organization and thanks to it; organizations can gain a competitive edge. Understanding this strategic role will promote the understanding of why the Human Resource Department is essential to an organization. This paper endeavors to analyze this concept of Human Resource in a bid to promote the appreciation of the HR. The strategic role of Human Resource in an organization involves the reorganization and orientation of the workforce of an organization in a bid to achieve specific organizational goals. The primary goal is to maximize profits as is the objective of any organization today (Dusheng and Zhongming, 2014). The concept revolves around how the company can refocus the efforts of the workforce towards maximizing its profits. The aspect of motivation comes in where organizations employ different motivational mechanisms such as performance appraisal. That involves the organization conducting employee performance and measuring the performance against predetermined performance standards. The employee that scores the highest, for instance, where an organization uses scorecards, is rewarded. There are different types of rewards ranging from monetary to non-monetary rewards. The primary objective of performance appraisal is to motivate the worker to become a better performer in the organization. An example of this concept in practice involves the organization having bonus pays for those employees that hit a certain target set by the organization’s leaders. That encourages the workers to work hard to reach the target so that they can be the ones to receive the bonus pay. By so doing, the employees increase their productivity in the organization and, at the same time, they will be achieving their personal goals (bonus pay). Failure to utilize this concept might have devastating effects on the performance of the organization (Taylor et al., 2008). For instance, without motivational aspects in the organization, the goals of the workers and the organizations might not be aligned thus reducing the productivity of the worker as he or she will not prioritize his or her duties. That results in truancy in the employee and sometimes absent-mindedness which causes wastage of resources ultimately reducing profit margins. Conclusion My competency in this concept area is above average since I am much better with the theoretical aspect than with the application of the concept. My limitations here revolve around using this concept in the work environment successfully without eliciting wrong responses. For instance, strategic approaches suc...
