Any organization around the globe operates in a given environment with factors that can affect the business both internally or externally. An organization' internal environment consists of conditions or entities which have direct effect on firm's choices and operations. From the fact that these factors are found within the firm, it is easier to influence and change or correct such factors. For example, employees' behavior can be changed. Notably, such factors are known to be responsible for the strengths and weaknesses that a given firm possesses. On the other hand, external environment refers to events or factors that influence business operations and choices, while determining the opportunities and risks presented to the firm but the given firm has no power to change or correct them. Examples of such factors include politics and inflation (BusinessDictionary.com, 2015).
Strengths
1 Dowling Flexible Metals Company has a pool of skilled and experienced human resource staff, which is a vital asset for growth and development of any firm.
2 The firm's organizational structure is a flexible one; hence, allowing adjustments that assist it to stay in touch with the ever changing environment.
3 The company's structure is well depicted in the organizational chart enabling employees to know who they report to and the hierarchy of power in the organization.
4 The firm owns a factory, which is equipped with the efficient machinery to produce the needed goods.
Weaknesses
1 The firm's human resource is experiencing wrangles within itself as can be observed from the fiasco involving the vending machine.
2 Leadership at Dowling Flexible Metals Company is poor if not missing, and this costs the firm since the skills needed to settle conflict are unavailable.
3 Culture change in the organization has brought up confusion among employees wince they have to adapt to new ways of doing things which brings about resistance.
4 Underutilization of the human resource staff's experience available to the firm resulted to overhead costs.
Opportunities
1 Dowling Flexible Metals Company can diversify from its main customer base, which is the auto industry to manufacturing firms with no connection to the auto industry.
2 A readily available raw material in the form of fiberglass and plastics serve as a substitute for the scarce and costly to acquire metal.
3 Increasing demand for computerized process tapes is an opportunity for the firm to take advantage of, and turn around the stagnation in its growth curve.
