General Dynamics is a multidimensional company ranked position 290 among 500 of the World’s Fortune Companies. General Dynamics company majors in four business areas namely aerospace, marines systems, combat systems and information technology systems. The evidence of high ethical standards, innovation, integrity and continuous improvement has been evident in the company’s operations since its initiation in 1950s (General Dynamics, 2011).
Mission Statement
General Dynamics Corporation mission is to maintain the highest possible ethical standards in the business industry and employee relations. Its ethical program formally began in 1986 and is applicable to all employees. The company focuses on superior product and service delivery and creation of shareholder value. The company targeted customer base is the military, government departments and other commercial customers. General Dynamics emphasizes on excellence in strategic and program management as it strives for a continual improvement in its operations (General Dynamics, 2011). The company has focused on its mission statement to produce excellent products and offer innovative services.
General Dynamics Organizational Structure
General Dynamic’s organizational structure is a hierarchical organizational structure made up of both the Divisional structure and Functional structure. Functional structure of the company includes the Human Resource, Finance, IT department and Marketing among others. The functional design structure is relatively autonomous led by a senior staff reporting to the Departmental managing director (Reiss, 2012). The functional structure in General Dynamics is efficient and in areas where there is a need for functional skills, it acts as an economy of scale.
Strategy
General Dynamics is strategically aligned which helps the company in ensuring that objectives of the strategic management of the company is achieved. Strategic alignment means that the organizational initiatives (such as infrastructure, support, research and operational) are funded in accordance to the organizational strategic objectives. Strategic objectives provide the framework under which strategic management operates (General Dynamics, 2011).
