For this assignment, I selected option 2; Global Hot Button issues on Coronavirus Global Pandemic. Since it emerged in China, the Asian continent, Coronavirus has spread significantly and at an alarming rate across different countries across the world. Here is a summary of the three articles that I selected on this topic.
Article #1: Taylor, A., Noack, R., Berger, M., & Brice-Saddler, M. (2020 February, 27). “Fears grow of a Coronavirus Pandemic as Markets stumble again, Japan Shuts Schools.” The Washington Post (Online News). https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2020/02/27/coronavirus-live-updates/
The article “Fears grow of a Coronavirus Pandemic as Markets stumble again, Japan Shuts Schools” is authored by Taylor, Noack, Berger, and Brice-Saddler and published on Washington Post news. This article is about the global pandemic. This article was published at the time coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic was beginning to spread worldwide. The article examines how the coronavirus started to spread across the United States and other countries across the world. The article highlights how the coronavirus disrupted the social life of people in Japan as schools were shut as disrupted the market in the United States as the travel bans across many countries were put in place.
Coronavirus pandemic has affected the way people communicate. The findings of this article can inform our study of intercultural communication, especially when it comes to understanding the channels of communication. Coronavirus has brought about restrictions on the way people used to interact and do their business. The pandemic has made it impossible to continue using the verbal and non-verbal channels that were important in business communications.
Article #2: NPR. (2020 July, 28). “German and U.K. Officials warn of a Possible New Covid-19 Wave in Europe.” NPR Organization (Online). https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/07/28/896135038/german-and-u-k-officials-warn-of-a-possible-new-covid-19-wave-in-europe
The article “German and U.K. Officials warn of a Possible New Covid-19 Wave in Europe” is authored and published by NPR Organization. This article is also about the global pandemic. With the new wave of coronavirus becoming a concern, intercultural communication students can learn the potential impacts of the pandemic in the way people communicate and socialize. With the social distancing regulations put in place, societies like the American and European societies where people great each other with hugs and kisses has come to stop. Coronavirus pandemic has affected the cultural influences on communication.
