The mass shooting at Las Vegas led to the introduction of the Gun Control Law where lawmakers debated on legalizing the purchase of gun suppressors. On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, Dave Boyer of Washington Times wrote that President Trump said that his administration would weigh the new gun laws later. New interests in the legislation resulted from the aftermath of the Las Vegas massacre where mass gun shooting was experienced in a concert. On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, S.A Miller of Washington Times indicated that a Congress member, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, introduced the bill to allow ban of silencers and bump stocks that automates guns. Feinstein explained that many people were killed due to permission to modify legal weapons thus making them more dangerous. The Republican Congress members however resisted the new gun-control measures dubbed the Automatic Gun Fire Prevention Act. Texas Congressman, Henry Cuellar, said in an interview that gun control laws do not work, and that people are responsible. He held that the Las Vegas incident was a criminal act. He indicated that most places in the country are safe and existing gun control measures are effective.
The United States Congress delayed to vote on buying gun silencers after the Vegas massacre because it considered it a controversial plan. The House Speaker, Paul Ryan, argued that the bill was not scheduled, and that they were maintaining focus on passing the budget (Sheryl and Yamiche). Some Democrats indicated that passing the bill would only make it very tedious and almost impossible to locate the people involved in the crime. The Republican, Jeff Duncan, who is one of the bill sponsors, explained that reducing the noise of a gun is a safety issue for people who hunt.
Hillary Clinton was one of the people who expressed their concerns on the issue. She emphasized the need to consider critical aspects of the bill to avoid complications. This bill was stalled as a result of a House Republican’s Steve Scalise who was badly injured at a baseball practice for a congressional charity in June 2017. Ryan spoke against the shooting escapade but stressed that Lone Wolf’s actions should not define the future of the United States of America.
