Cohen speakers tend to idealize the naked female body during sexual ecstasy or female muse. From Leonard Cohen’s song “Light as Breeze," it is evident that the female is portrayed as divine. The subject (male) then behaves in a way that shows he believes in the beloved (female) as the goddess, and his reaction is similar to a believer's when worshiping his deity. The subject views the sexual experiences with the beloved as a form of sexual and religious worship. From the first stanza’s description, it is evident that the subject experiences a vivid fantasy of this naked female, and the vision is so intense that they can see the woman present in their mind and taste her presence (PÉREZ, 2014). That’s both erotic and spiritual. The stanza says, "she stands before you naked.
You can see, you can taste it
But she comes to you light as the breeze
You can drink it, or you can nurse it
It don’t matter how you worship
As long as you’re
Down on your knees.”
These descriptions and portrayals show how the woman is portrayed as a deity and worshipped by the subject. How then is, do these portrayals make women into ghosts? How do the above descriptions make women’s enduring into relationships delusional?”
Some of these and related portrayals of real women make them into ghosts as they place the woman who is technically powerless in medieval society in a position of total power, control and influence over their lovers. The man then becomes the servant and the subject as well regardless of his status and turns to be her slave. The worship the woman receives turns her into a feudal lord or a goddess. She is a deity to whom the male is subjected. The woman's movement is described as light as a breeze, which can be compared to a ghost’s movement. The goddess, in this case, a woman, manifests herself as moving air. The woman is then compared to the Hebrew God, who came in the form of a whirlwind to reward Job with blessings from heaven for his suffering. In the same way, the woman comes to the worshipper (subject) in the form of moving air or breath to take care of his torments, and he is unable to turn away even though his torments are because of her. The woman is also regarded as sacred from her vulva and womb, which are the source of human life.
Enduring relationships become delusional since the woman is so much worshiped, and she is expected to take care of the subject's torments with a simple kiss, although it lasts for a second. Therefore the subject never
